You had me with a great quote from Hunter S Thompson, but TWO recipes for scones (I love both sweet and savory scones) are just icing on the cake!

Love warm scones out of the oven! These look fabulous. We also attempt to make our own clotted cream. I erred in a previous comment. Lather the scone with your favorite jam or jelly and then top with double Devon clotted cream. Warm ,melty and so not French but delicious!

Sometimes you just need something not French, right? I think scones are just about the most perfect thing. Now I need to figure out where to get Devon clotted cream (I have the jam covered). Happy New Year, Joe!

Thanks. Living in England, as I do, I have never eaten the non-savoury scones without clotted cream. Highly recommended with strawberry jam.

Raisins , I have no currants, and the Ultimate Decadence, Chocolate. Ghirardelli never nestle.

whipping up a batch this morning. I have seen clotted cream in cans at Wegmans but never bought it. You might find it in a Euro Deli

Happy New year and Chag Sameach Jamie!

May the upcoming year bring us everything we need (and some people, what they deserve)!

These look yummy, but I have a question...what if I don't have any powdered milk? Cuz I REALLY want to make these!

And a very happy new year and promising, healthy, and happy 2025!

In theory, you can replace the powdered milk with regular milk, about ¼ cup milk for each tablespoon dry powdered. So just increase the milk a bit. Knead in a bit more flour if this makes the dough wetter and stickier, but it shouldn't make too much difference.

Thanks!

I made them last week and THEY WERE THE BEST SCONES EVER!!

I don't think any of your recipes have ever come out less than awesome.

I'm thinking of making your French apple cake next...

Happy New Year! It’s 3:42 AM on January 1st, 2025 and I’m salivating over this scone recipe. I love them but don’t make that often. I am constantly dreaming about the long ago light sugar crusted currant scones that came from the iconic Marshall Field’s (Dept. store) bakery. I will try this recipe and use currants.

Yes, do try it with currants! I think I might have some dried blueberries in the refrigerator...I might do that! It's such a perfect treat on a winter morning! Happy New Year!

Scones, sweet or savory, always delicious, whether eaten in France, Scotland, America or anywhere! Your recipes sound wonderful, Jamie, and, as you say, scones are the perfect comfort food to usher in 2025. I’ll be making these for sure! Bonne année!

I've hunted for a decent savory cheese scone recipe for years. There is a bakery in Atlanta, Alain's, that made the best guyere scone with pepper, which they changed to a solid black topping of poppy seeds; too much! It was such a disappointment when I visited and saw only the poppy seed. This looks right.

May your new year be better than imagined, and even good!
