We aren't the type of people who have an accountant and a lawyer, you know, those folks who casually drop "my accountant" or "my lawyer" into conversations or who can get advice and a recommendation for every life decision the time it takes to make a quick phone call. Neither Jean-Pierre nor I grew up with money. When we married, we were poor as the proverbial church mouse and, as my mother would say, didn't have two nickels to rub together. We owned a used car, a used refrigerator, an old mattress, and a desk. Jean-Pierre worked part time and I worked freelance, averaging about 1 or 2 days a week.
