The greater the obstacle, the more glory in overcoming it. ― Molière
Yeah, so things change. Whether change comes unexpectedly, or whether anticipated, change causes turbulence.
Turbulence: "violent or unsteady movement of air or water, or of some other fluid; a state of conflict or confusion and lack of order.”
I’m in a vortex of, mmmm, can I say “cosmic matter”? I’ve been in a constant state of juggling the many aspects of my personal and professional life (lives) for quite some time: Substack and podcast, book project, hotel sale, moving, various personal relationships. And things were going fairly well. We had two couples hovering around the hotel, in love with the property and enthralled with the business, and we were only waiting for one or the other to make a bid. My book project was on the desk of a prominent (and super terrific) editor who seemed enthusiastic about working on it with me. My podcast, with a dozen new episodes in the editing room, had a launch date. Everything, including my personal life, was moving forward fluidly, un long fleuve tranquille, as the French say, a long, tranquil river.
Actually, if I’m going to be honest, the French expression is “la vie n'est pas un long fleuve tranquille” - life is not a long, tranquil river. In other words, life is not a bed of roses. Or, in my case, “best laid plans of mice and men often go awry.”
Suddenly, it all comes crashing down around my ears. Everything has gone awry. I am now faced with several hard decisions all at once, financial, creative, personal, all woven together, the fabric of life.
